Pasadena is a census-designated place located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Located south of Baltimore, this community is known for its wonderful location to the Patapsco River and destinations like the BWI Airport and Glen Burnie.
Southeast of Glen Burnie
Pasadena is roughly bounded by Route 2 to the west, Magothy River to the south; Magothy Bridge Road is the most eastern point of the area, while Sloop Cove and Stoney Creek sit to the north. Jacobsville and later the tidal Patapsco River borders the community to the east, to the southeast is Lake Shore, to the south is Severna Park, to the west is Glen Burnie and the city of Baltimore is to the north. Annapolis, Odenton, Gibson Island and BWI are also nearby.
History Behind Pasadena’s Wishing Rock
Just off of Ritchie Highway, south of Jumper’s Hole Road, is a huge mound of quartzite that was a hub of Native American commerce and tool making roughly 10,000 years ago. Local legends and stories of the rocks beginnings tell of Indian chiefs who came from up and down the East Coast to make treaties at the base of the rock. Listed on the Maryland Register of Historic Places, this rock has impacted many people in the surrounding areas. Firm believers will tell you that there is a presence of a supernatural force radiating from the Wishing Rock. Despite the fact that the Wishing Rock and surrounding property are privately owned, the area has long been trespassed on by anyone from paranormal investigators to teenagers.
Major Routes Around the Area
Route 2 is the town’s major north-south route. If you drive northbound on this road it will take you to Glen Burnie, Brooklyn Park, and eventually downtown Baltimore. Nearby Severna Park is also reached by this route. Route 10 and 100 both branch away in Pasadena. Route 100 will take you into Severn and as far as Ellicott City while Route 10 eventually merges with I-695 and can take you over the Patapsco River and into Dundalk and Essex. Other important roads in and around the area include I-97, Route 177 and Route 173.
Although not directly located near the Patapsco River, the area of Pasadena does provide plenty of waterfront homes. Many of these homes are near the Magothy River and Stoney Creek. The houses here are single-family detached homes—as are many of the housing stock available—but all differ in setting as you can find a serene and secluded environment to a more community neighborhood filled with tree-lined roads. Some popular architectural styles found here are rambler, colonial, cottages and cape cods. Townhouses and apartment buildings are also common here.
Restaurants & Shopping Destinations
Located at the Lake Shore Plaza Shopping Center is Two Rivers Steak & Fish House. This family-friendly steakhouse provides a sports-bar vibe that features music, trivia and open-mic nights. Some delicious dishes found here are the stuffed shrimp, Tuscan chicken pasta, and the center cut sirloin, while some amazing side orders are the sweet mash potatoes and the crab cakes. This spot is not only known for their great food but an array of events and music nights also bring in a large crowd. This is definitely the go-to spot for late night entertainment.
Bella Napoli is a wonderful Italian restaurant located on Mountain Road near the center of Pasadena. This relaxed Italian eatery serves up some traditional dishes, New York-style and Sicilian pies, subs and an extensive beer and wine menu. Lista’s Grill Restaurant is also located on Mountain Road and is a popular spot among residents. Their menu has some juicy steaks and fresh seafood all served within a casual, colorful and cheerful atmosphere. Also popular here are the fish tacos and the homemade margaritas and sangrias. Other restaurants located around Pasadena include Szechuan Cafe Incorporated, The Daily Scoop, Bangkok Oriental and Cookie’s Kitchen.
Lakes & Parks
Lake Waterford Park and Adaptive Recreation Complex is located on Pasadena Road and is a wonderful community park. This country park comes with a lake where fishing is very popular. Other recreational options include an adaptive baseball field, 2 lighted basketball courts, a lighted multi-purpose field, a natural area, a picnic area, a playground, 4 lighted tennis courts and a trail. The other parks in the area include Havenwood Park, which offers 4 baseball fields and a paved trail and Beachwood Park, which offers a natural area, a cartop boat launch and an area for fishing.
Outside the communities jurisdictions is Jacobsville Recreation Area. Located on Magothy Beach Road, this park offers 3 baseball fields, 2 basketball courts, 2 tennis courts, a paved trail and a playground. Across the street is the amazing Lake Shore Athletic Complex which houses 12 baseball fields, 4 soccer fields, 2 basketball courts, plenty of trails and a playground. Other recreational opportunities found here comprise of boat tours and other water activities like kayaking and canoeing, while the other green spaces around include the Compass Pointe Golf Course, Kinder Farm Park and Downs Park.
Pasadena is mostly known for its location to the Patapsco River and being within close distance to the shore. The area features great housing and dining options while also supplying residents with plenty of areas for water and land sports.
